It’s April Fool’s Day, which means a large portion of the “news” you read on the internet today will be fabricated. But one thing that that is most certainly NOT a joke is that the long-awaited Deadpool movie is aiming for an R rating, which should be music to the ears of fanboys everywhere.
The news comes from JoBlo, who actually started the day with the “news” that Deadpool would be targeting a PG-13 rating. Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the titular mercenary, offered his own opinion of this idea:
A PG-13 #deadpool will still have 4th wall breaking, a shit-ton of action and at least 3 chimichangas. Zero need to panic. I promise.

A few hours later, the original story was updated with a video clip of Reynolds being interviewed by Extra‘s Mario Lopez, who seems overly keen to discuss the film’s PG-13 rating. Check it out below.
That’s a pretty solid April Fool’s joke, and as great as the costume looked in the first photo from last week, it’s nice to see it in motion – even if it’s only for a brief moment. I also like the voice Reynolds is using for the character – it just sounds right. After the video was released, Reynolds returned to Twitter to clarify a few things about Deadpool’s rating:
February 12th. There will be blood. Guns. F-bombs. And graphic, expertly lit French Unicorn sex. #deadpoolRatedR @deadpoolmovie #Aprilpools
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) April 1, 2015
So there you have it – unlike the version of the character that appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this Deadpool will not be watered down and sanitized. If you’ve always dreamed of seeing Deadpool on the big screen with all of the violence, profanity and humor that made the character so popular, then mark your calendars.
Deadpool will hit theaters on February 12, 2016.
