The day Constantine fans have been dreading may have finally arrived. No, it’s not the apocalypse that is the villain this time out, it’s NBC, as Buzzfeed is reporting that the cult favorite show based on the DC Comics character is officially dead at the network.
UPDATE: BuzzFeed is now saying that a final decision on the fate of Constantine has not been made.
#Constantine faithful, my source at NBC tells me your show is still awaiting news. We’ll see! http://t.co/psq8C9ohIr pic.twitter.com/F3igSu5CeD

ORIGINAL: The chain-smoking “petty dabbler” in the dark arts, John Constantine, and his show have been ratings challenged all season, but still managed to develop a small yet vocal following through social media and the extremely faithful portrayal of the character by Matt Ryan. Buzzfeed’s just released list of cancellations and renewals lists Constantine as solidly in the cancelled column. Not buying Buzzfeed’s report? The author backs up her statement below:
Producer Daniel Cerone had recently taken to Twitter to reveal they would be pitching Season 2 ideas in late April to NBC, but if this news pans out, the network may have already made up its mind. Obviously, nothing is set in stone until NBC does a press release or makes their announcements at the upfronts in May – but with Buzzfeed seemingly doing some legwork on this one, it sounds like NBC may just be laying their cards on the table early.
If the cancellation does get confirmed, Constantine will be the first of Warner Bros. TV’s new crop of DC Comics based shows to get the axe. Arrow, The Flash, and Gotham were all renewed for another season by their respective networks, and Constantine would be the only DE-related series to debut in 2014 and not come back for a Season 2. Fans can look forward to Supergirl on CBS to add another entry to DC Comics catalog this fall, but it’d be a shame to lose the dark corner of the supernatural DC Universe that is currently only being represented by Constantine.
We’ll keep you posted if NBC releases an official statement.
