TNT Nears Pilot for Live-Action 'Teen Titans'

No network is safe from the expansion of the DC Television Universe, as TNT is nearing a pilot for a live-action adaptation of DC’s Teen Titans. The show would be called simply Titans, and Deadline has the exclusive, saying the only hold on the pilot order is the current regime change ongoing at the TNT network.

The Teen Titans property is probably best known for its more zany children’s show on Cartoon Network, Teen Titans Go!, but the comic book version was a bit more serious, and the characters were actually more like teens and less like children. The script for the Titans pilot was written by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Marc Haimes. The synopsis sounds like we’ll be getting many of the big names from the Titans roster:

The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others. Goldsman executive produces, with Haimes serving as co-executive producer for WBTV’s cable division Warner Horizon.

Sounds like the show would definitely be more Young Justice than Teen Titans Go! and in my eyes that’s a very good thing. Also interesting is that they reference Dick Grayson’s Nightwing as the leader and not his younger Robin version. No mention of Cyborg, who is usually a standard group member, but not surprising as the character is long-rumored to appear in the Justice League film.

Since the show would most likely land on TNT, it’s unfortunate that there is zero room to crossover with any other DC Shows. Warner Bros TV is producing Titans though, along with their already massive and still growing list of DC Comics Television properties including Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, and Constantine.

We’ll be sure to update you when the pilot is officially greenlit and when we know which characters will end up a part of the full cast.
