Hayley Atwell has been confirmed to be appearing as her Captain America character, Peggy Carter, in the Season 2 premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Even better is that she will be appearing via flashback with some of the Howling Commandos including Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) and Jim Morita (Justin Choi). Check it out via TV Guide below:
We’ve known for a while that during the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. winter break, Agent Carter would fill the void with its approximately 13-episode first season. Fans can get an early look at what the vibe of the show will be like in the excellent Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, although the series is set to take place before the events of that short.
There’s no word if McDonough and Choi will reprise their Howling Commando characters for the full series, but it has been confirmed that Dominic Cooper would be reprising his role as Howard Stark on the show.
How do these characters fit in with Coulson and his crew in the Season 2 premiere? As you know, the events of the last half of Season 1 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have left S.H.I.E.L.D. broken, and Agent Coulson is now in the director’s chair trying to pick up the pieces. Here’s how executive producer Jed Whedon links it all together:
“Coulson is a big student of history and wants to return to those old ideals of Agent Carter’s time. He’s like, ‘Let’s be the S.H.I.E.L.D. we were meant to be!’ He wants to do the job right this time.”
Sounds like he’ll be looking for inspiration from Agent Carter and the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. to bring the organization back to its roots. It’s exciting to see Marvel starting to expand its MCU into a television universe, and they look to already be meshing very well. Fingers crossed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has fixed its early Season 1 problems and keeps rolling strong on the momentum built up during the final episodes for the upcoming Season 2. Until then, here’s the Season 2 premiere description:
