Casting news continues to trickle out for AMC’s Preacher, the upcoming adaptation of the comic series by Garth Ennis. We already know that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Ruth Negga has landed the role of Tulip, and Ian Colletti has been cast as Eugene Root (also known as Arseface) – and now, we have our hard-drinking Irish vampire.
Deadline reports that British actor Joseph Gilgun (This is England) will portray Cassidy in the series. Here’s how they decribe the TV version of the character:
…the most wild-ass, bestest “bro” you’d ever want to meet. He may be 100 years dead but no one’s more boisterously alive than Proinsias Cassidy. An incorrigible mischief-maker, Cassidy’s up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence.
No confirmation yet on the leading role of Jesse Custer, but rumors have been swirling for awhile that Dominic Cooper is on the verge of closing a deal. There are still a few other supporting roles left to fill, but most of the major players have been locked down at this point.
The Preacher adaptation is being developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with a pilot scheduled to shoot in the coming weeks. If the project goes to series, which seems likely, it’s expected to begin airing this fall.
