'Star Wars: Rebels' reveals 'cowboy' Jedi voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.

Star Wars: Rebels is becoming increasingly intriguing as more is revealed about the upcoming series from Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars). The aesthetic is a mix of Filoni’s work on The Clone Wars animated series and the legendary original trilogy concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.

Fans have already gotten a look at the series “big bad,” the Sith Inquisitor, and at the end of January met “the lazy, cranky (if ultimately goodhearted) astromech droid” Chopper, and now USA Today got the scoop with an in-depth article on a main “cowboy” Jedi character named Kanan, to be voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.

The character description sounds incredibly cool, with Kanan preferring to wield a blaster instead of lightsaber whenever possible to avoid detection from “Order 66”, while still taking it to the Empire with the crew of his ship, The Ghost (although the ponytail and chin hair make him look a bit more like a cosplayer than a badass).

Star Wars: Rebels will premiere on Disney XD in late 2014. Check out the picture reveal below and click it to hop over to USAToday.com for a video featurette.
