At CinemaCon in April, the announcement of The Batman 2 excited fans, especially regarding the future of characters like Paul Dano’s Riddler. The first film concluded with Riddler, also known as Edward Nashton, in prison, hinting at the possibility of his return. However, when asked if he would reprise the role, Dano admitted he has “no clue” about his future as the character.
In a recent interview discussing his Riddler origin comic, The Riddler: Year One, Dano emphasized that while the comic stands on its own, it is rooted in his portrayal of the Riddler. He expressed enthusiasm for the character, stating, “I loved making The Batman, so I think I certainly would” be open to returning, should the opportunity arise.
Dano reflected on his experience with the character, particularly after Nashton’s interactions with the Joker in the film. He mentioned that he hasn’t deeply contemplated the character’s future, finding it intriguing that he has spent considerable time developing the Riddler in the comic format. He noted that writing the comic allows for a deeper exploration of the character’s inner thoughts, which film can only capture to a certain extent.
While he hasn’t focused much on what comes next for the Riddler, Dano remains receptive to the idea of continuing the journey if the chance presents itself.
