Vincent D’Onofrio recently made a highly anticipated return as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, in Marvel’s Hawkeye series on Disney+. Fans were thrilled to see him reprise the role he first portrayed in Netflix’s Daredevil, a character many fought to keep alive after that universe concluded. Now that D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expectations are high for his future, particularly regarding a potential crossover with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
In a recent interview, D’Onofrio shared his thoughts on Kingpin’s trajectory in the MCU. When asked about his favorite comic book characters, he mentioned iconic heroes like Batman, The Punisher, Daredevil, Captain America, and Spider-Man. When the host suggested the possibility of Kingpin and Spider-Man crossing paths, D’Onofrio responded enthusiastically, saying, “That would be pretty cool. It would be very cool.”
The future of both Kingpin and Spider-Man remains uncertain, especially after the dramatic events of Hawkeye, where Kingpin appeared to take a serious hit. However, the characters are already linked in intriguing ways. Spider-Man: No Way Home was released around the same time as Hawkeye, allowing for a unique overlap. At the end of No Way Home, Peter Parker finds himself starting anew in a modest Manhattan apartment, while Hawkeye concludes with Kingpin battling Kate Bishop just a few blocks away.
Historically, Spider-Man and Kingpin have had a longstanding rivalry in the comics, with Kingpin first appearing as a foe in Amazing Spider-Man #50 back in 1967. Over time, he became more closely associated with Daredevil. The recent reintroduction of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in the MCU adds another layer of possibility for future interactions. Given that Spider-Man now embodies the essence of a street-level hero, the stage is set for exciting crossovers with both Kingpin and Daredevil in upcoming stories.
