Recent benchmarks for Intel’s 11th generation processors, known as Tiger Lake, have appeared on Geekbench, revealing performance metrics specifically for the Tiger Lake-U variant intended for laptops. While there are discussions about a future desktop release, Intel’s immediate focus is on mobile devices.
The leaked benchmarks indicate that Tiger Lake-U shows some incremental performance improvements compared to the previous generation, Ice Lake. The single-core score is reported at 1400, with a multi-core score of 4920. In comparison, the Core i7-1065G7 scored 1229 and 4510, while the i7-10710U had scores of 1092 and 4985. Notably, Tiger Lake-U has a base clock speed of 2.30 GHz, which is higher than the 1.50 GHz and 1.61 GHz of its predecessors.
A key point of interest remains how well Tiger Lake will perform in gaming scenarios. Intel has claimed that the Xe Graphics in Tiger Lake will deliver double the performance of the Ice Lake integrated graphics, particularly in the context of gaming on lightweight laptops.
While there’s no official release date yet, Intel has indicated that Tiger Lake processors will be shipped to OEMs by summer, likely targeting Q2 or Q3 of 2020. However, they will face competition from AMD’s Ryzen 7 4000 mobile processors, which are set to launch in February 2020.
In related news, benchmarks for AMD’s Ryzen 7 4800H have also surfaced, suggesting it may outperform Intel’s Core i7-9700K, as AMD positions its 4000-series mobile chips as having desktop-like performance.
