With the release of The Amazing Spider-Man coming so closely on the heels of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the filmmakers knew they had to establish a new universe and a new continuity. One of the most noticeable differences, right from the start, was Spider-Man’s new costume – but have you ever wondered how many iterations the design went through before the final version?
JoBlo managed to get their hands on what appear to be a few alternate designs, which you can check out in the gallery below. These look like something you might have seen in a darker, more serious Spider-Man film, perhaps if Christopher Nolan had been behind the camera. Also, very interesting to see a nod to the very first appearance of the character, with the webbing between the arms and the torso, and it’s an odd coincidence that the eyes in that particular design are strikingly similar to the redesigned suit for the upcoming sequel.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters on May 2, 2014, with a trailer for the film debuting online next week.
