Back in October, we reported that Vikings star Travis Fimmel had been offered a leading role in the long-awaited film adaptation of Warcraft, set to be directed by Duncan Jones. Legendary Pictures and Universal revealed several new additions to the cast earlier today, confirming that deals had been signed with Ben Foster (Lone Survivor, Kill Your Darlings), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans, War Horse), and Rob Kazinsky (HBO’s True Blood).
Dominic Cooper is also in the final stages of negotiation, and Paula Patton’s rumored involvement has also been confirmed. Conspicuously absent from the announcement was Colin Farrell, whose name has been associated for the project for months, and who has even answered several interview questions about the film.
Charles Leavitt wrote the first draft of the screenplay, which was subsequently rewritten by Jones. Shooting is scheduled to begin on location in Vancouver early next year, with a 2016 release date planned.
