After a lackluster second installment, Marvel Studios definitely needed to shake things up to get the Thor series back on track, and the selection of The Hunt for the Wilderpeople director Taika Waititi to helm the third entry was certainly a bold move. Luckily, that decision seems destined to pay off in a big way, because the first teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok has just dropped, and it’s fantastic.
Check it out here.
This looks vastly different from the first two Thor films, and aesthetically it seems to have quite a bit in common with Guardians of the Galaxy – and that’s not a bad thing. Waititi’s sense of humor is very much on display here, and the final few seconds of this clip is absolutely brilliant as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) encounters a familiar face.
It’s also great to see the return of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), as well as being introduced to newcomers like Hela (Cate Blanchett), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). So far, everything about Thor: Ragnarok is looking great, and we can’t wait to see what other surprises Waititi and his team have in store for Marvel fans.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3.
