‘The Flash’ Will Crossover With ‘Supergirl’ March 28th on CBS

To steal a line from that other comic book company: “Didn’t see that coming, did you?” After months of speculation and denial from all actors, creative teams and network executives, The Flash Twitter account has dropped the bombshell that Grant Gustin’s “Fastest Man Alive” will visit Melissa Benoist’s “Girl of Steel” in National City on the March 28th episode of Supergirl on CBS.

The mind boggles with the possibilities and the numerous questions that arise from this announcement. How will this affect The CW continuity of shows? Will Supergirl be revealed as taking place on an alternate Earth? What characters will interact and crossover? Please, please let Barry meet Martian Manhunter!

Showrunners Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg have gone on record numerous times stating they’d played around with ideas for a crossover, but the contractual legality of the characters and the fact that both Warner Bros. TV-produced shows were on separate networks made a crossover unlikely this season.

UPDATE: Berlanti and Kreisberg have released an official statement about the crossover:

We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up!. We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.

Whether or not the plan was to keep this secret or they just finalized the deal, I’m extremely stoked about the news. Supergirl is really starting to hit its stride and the inclusion of DC Comics favorites like Martian Manhunter have really extended the show’s geek credit.

Exact details about the episode are obviously being kept under wraps for now, but we’ll be sure to provide you with all the info as it comes out leading up to The Flash and Supergirl crossover, happening March 28th on CBS.
