It’s been twenty years since the release of Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting, and the Oscar-winning director has reassembled the original cast for a brand new story. Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle) are back, and you can get your first look at T2: Trainspotting right here.
The first T2: Trainspotting trailer surfaced early this morning, and you can check it out below.
The trailer doesn’t give much away in terms of plot – Renton comes home after 20 years and reunites with his old pals for another series of drug-induced misadventures – but the tone of this footage feels like exactly what I would want from a Trainspotting sequel. It should be interesting to see how Boyle and the cast address the idea of middle-aged men getting up to the same sort of trouble they did in their youth, and the consequences that could come from those decisions.
T2: Trainspotting is slated to open January 27, 2017 in the UK and Ireland, followed by a February 3, 2017 release in the U.S.
First there was an opportunity… then there was a betrayal.
Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).
Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.
