Joystiq(100/100)  “The word polish is bestowed often, but Gears of War 3 is embarrassingly well assembled. Anyone who played this spring’s multiplayer beta has an inkling of this. From a mechanical standpoint, the third-person, cover-based shooting in Gears has never been as fluid, as responsive to player input. Weapons feel and sound fantastic and pack the punch that previous iterations struggled with. But it isn’t just those meat and potatoes aspects – or the beautiful, colorful visual palette on display, a marked departure from Gears 1 and 2 – it’s the entire package. Nothing in Gears of War 3 feels like an afterthought.”

Game Informer(95/100)  “The tactical, cover-focused combat demands equal parts strategy and execution and rewards excellence in each. The intensely violent audiovisual presentation puts weight behind every action in the game, selling a real sense of physical space and contact. Gears of War is every bit the triple-A shooter Call of Duty or Halo is, but its slower-paced combat provides a unique and fascinating take on the genre.  Gears 3 is a fantastic idea polished to near perfection by an enormous crew of talented developers and a bottomless budget. If you’re not a believer yet this probably won’t convert you, but I can’t think of anything I wanted in this installment that Epic doesn’t deliver on.”

1UP(A-)  Gears of War 3 is designed to hook you from the very beginning and keep you there for hours and hours. It’s clear that Epic didn’t design this game for the kinds of players who pick up a game, play the campaign and trade it in; they designed Gears 3 for fans who want to invest time in this shooter like it was an MMORPG.  Gears of War 3 is such an amazing package and I firmly believe there will still be a dedicated multiplayer community for it years down the line.”

IGN(90/100)  Gears 3 feels exactly the way you’d expect it to feel, but better, as everything’s been overhauled and fine-tuned. The roadie run feels faster, snapping into cover works better and combat has been tightened-up. Plus you can kick fools while you vault over cover, which seriously rules. There’s a ton of new implements of doom with which to shoot, impale, gouge and chew up your enemies with, including weapons like the Digger, a gun that allows you to fire a grenade underground for sneaky AOE kills, and the Silverback, a sweet power loader outfitted with chainguns (YES!!!) taken right out of Aliens.  Gears of War 3 represents state-of-the-art design and gameplay where you become the king badass among a gory world of bad-asses. Every third-person, cover-based shooter from here on out will likely be compared to Gears 3, and it provides a fitting and poignant– if sometimes cheesy — closing chapter to the trilogy.”

Destructoid(80/100)  “A great game indeed, one that fans will most assuredly adore. It does lack that unique, intangible spark that the past two games had, but that does not mean it’s a poor game in any way. I have my disappointments, but I cannot claim I had a bad time. That Gears of War 3 doesn’t quite live up to expectations is only a testament to how high Epic raised the bar in past efforts.”

Eurogamer(80/100)  “In its multiplayer, all you could have reasonably asked for; in its visuals, new heights reached, while cracks of old age are papered over; in its story, a fitting conclusion; and in its campaign, though short of the consistent brilliance of its predecessor, a mostly rousing and memorable spectacle.”
