It’s been nearly 14 years since Johnny Depp first appeared onscreen as Captain Jack Sparrow, and six years since the eccentric pirate’s last adventure. But in just a few more months, Disney will try to resurrect the franchise with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which finds Sparrow on the run from the ghostly Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem).
Sparrow was conspicuously absent from the film’s first trailer, but he does make an appearance in the Super Bowl spot – as does his part-time rival, part-time ally Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). See for yourself.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will open on May 26.
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
