One of the most mysterious films headed to theaters this year is Passengers, an original sci-fi love story from screenwriter Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) and directed by The Imitation Game‘s Morten Tyldum. Other than the face that the film is headlined by Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, very little information has been revealed up to this point.
Perhaps Sony Pictures is trying to overcompensate for the relative secrecy around Passengers, because the first trailer has just been released and feels like every major story beat has been revealed in this clip. If you’re curious about the film, go ahead and check it out – just be aware that you could be spoiling a hefty part of the experience.
Also starring Andy Garcia, Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishburne, Passengers will hit theaters on December 21.
On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.
