Let’s all pretend to be surprised that director Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich are both returning for Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment in the how-is-this-possibly-still-making-money zombie horror franchise.  Bloody Disgusting broke the news, and also disclosed that Sienna Guillory will not be reprising her role as Jill Valentine, despite a spring Twitter post to the contrary.  BD also says that producers are casting the roles of Leon Kennedy and Barry Burton, whose names gamers will recognize from the long-running survival horror series. Look, I tried to enjoy the Resident Evil movies, and to be honest, I don’t hate…

I was excited for the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum even before it was officially announced.  And after seeing these new pre-order skins for Batman: Arkham City, I am grinning like The Joker himself! From left to right: Batman Beyond, The Dark Knight Returns, Earth One Batman, 1970’s Batman, Batman: The Animated Series and the default. Not really a new skin but I guess they threw it in there so it’s easier to compare.  Unfortunately, as of now the only one slated for release in the U.S. is the 70’s style, and that’s only if pre-ordered from Toys-R-Us. Others…

Hello. I’m Kate Witko, and I am A Lady on the Internet. I’m not a gamer, though I have worked at a video game store and will still kick your ass at select N64 titles. I’m not a movie buff, but the films I love, I love so hard. I do watch a comparatively large amount of television, but I’m picky about my shows and I am Strictly Download (read: too poor for cable). My comics don’t have superheroes, unless you count Spider Jerusalem (I actually do) or Kate Beaton’s rendition of Wonder Woman. I am just a woman, and…

This rumor has been bouncing around for awhile now, but Deadline is reporting that it’s one step closer to reality – Bruce Willis is being courted to step into the role of General Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe, in Paramount’s G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation.  He would be joining a cast that includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ray Stevenson, RZA, and Adrianne Palicki, as well as returning cast members Channing Tatum, Ray Park, and Byung Hun-lee. The film begins production this month, and is currently slated for release on June 29, 2012.

Vulture is reporting that Rose Byrne has just taken a role in The Place Beyond the Pines, the upcoming crime drama from Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance.  The film stars Bradley Cooper as a police-officer-turned-politician who finds himself at odds with a stunt cyclist (Ryan Gosling) who also happens to be a bank robber. Byrne will play the wife of Cooper’s character, stepping in for Greta Gerwig, who was attached to the film but forced to bow out due to a scheduling conflict.  The film began shooting two weeks ago, and set photos have revealed Gosling with bleached hair and…

Production on World War Z has been underway for some time now, with Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster at the helm.  Adapted from the Max Brooks novel, the film stars Brad Pitt as UN officer Gerry Lane, who is trying to compile a report in the aftermath of a zombie uprising.  The set photos below come courtesy of Splash News: Rumors have also been swirling that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is poised to take a role in the film.  Details are scarce at the time, with Deadline reporting that the part is “small but flashy.”  Paramount will release…

Steven Soderbergh’s viral thriller Contagion is scheduled for release on September 9, and the studio has released six new character posters of the principal cast.  The film centers on the outbreak of a lethal airborne virus, and the panic that ensues as the worldwide medical community tries to find a cure.  Click each thumbnail to check out the full-size posters.

Despite scathing reviews from critics, Sony’s family film The Smurfs has become a surprise hit, opening strong against (and nearly stealing a box office victory from) Cowboys and Aliens. After pulling in $78 million in its first two weekends, it’s no surprise that Sony is already hard at work on a script for the sequel.  The studio has set a date of August 2, 2013, for Smurfs 2, hoping to duplicate the late-summer success of the original.

Showtime continues to vigorously promote the forthcoming sixth season of Dexter, touting a new direction for the character and a much darker theme than last season.  We already know that the season is at least partially focused on Dexter’s new fascination with religion and his desire to provide a better life for his son.  But with a new promo video, Showtime is pulling the curtain back on some of the other changes we can expect for the new season.

Last month at Comic-Con, director Robert Rodriguez spilled a tiny bit of information on the status of his long-rumored follow-up to Sin City, saying “If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen this year.”  He went on to reveal that Frank Miller had drafted a script containing three stories, including two new ones crafted especially for the film.  Rodriguez also said the film would be shot in 3D. Now, in a Q&A session with We Got This Covered, Rodriguez indicates that the film may be much closer than we think. “Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing…
