The biggest news coming out of this year’s GDC is the confirmation of the long-running rumor that The Phantom Pain is, in fact, a code name for the next installment of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Konami finally admitted the truth via press release, and also unveiled the first trailer for the game, which you can check out below.

Let’s be honest: this is a Metal Gear Solid game, so there’s really no point in trying to make sense of the trailer. It looks absolutely insane, but that’s par for the course when it comes to this franchise. Notably absent was the voice of David Hayter as Snake, who confirmed via Twitter that he had not been approached to reprise his role. Also, we’re awaiting confirmation on whether or not the voice of Snake’s companion is, in fact, Kiefer Sutherland.

Here’s the full press release. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released this fall on Xbox 360 and PS3 (and possibly on next-gen consoles, as well).
