With so much of the original programming from premium cable networks revolving around dark, dramatic material, it’s nice to come across something a bit more light-hearted, making Showtime’s Masters of Sex feel like a bit of fresh air. The series stars Michael Sheen as sex researcher William Masters and Lizzy Caplan as fellow enthusiast Virginia Johnson, and is loosely based on their real-life experiences. Check out the first trailer right here.

Sheen looks great here, as usual, and Caplan seems to complement him perfectly (although I might be biased, because I tend to love just about everything she does). Hopefully the final product is just as intriguing and humorous as this footage. Masters of Sex premieres on September 24, exclusively on Showtime.

MASTERS OF SEX stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan as real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a midwestern teaching hospital to the cover of Time magazine and multiple appearances on Johnny Carson’s couch. He is a brilliant scientist out of touch with his own feelings, and she is a single working mother ahead of her time. The series chronicles their unusual lives, romance, and unlikely pop culture trajectory.
