‘La La Land’ Trailer: Here’s to the Ones That Dream

Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash was my favorite film of 2014, a brilliant character study about the tumultuous relationship between two obsessive personalities that featured an Oscar-winning performance from J.K Simmons. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next offering from Chazelle, and this winter it will arrive in the form of La La Land, a musical set against the backdrop of modern-day Los Angeles.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will star in Chazelle’s latest, and the latter shows off her vocal stylings in this new trailer. Check it out below.

I’ll readily admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for musicals – my wife and I are season ticket holders for our local stage venue – so I’m probably a bit predisposed to enjoy this one. But even if the genre doesn’t appeal to you, it’s hard to argue that from a visual standpoint, La La Land looks absolutely stunning. There are some amazing shots in this little clip, and I can’t wait to see what sort of eye candy the finished product will offer.

La La Land marks the third onscreen pairing for Stone and Gosling, who previously appeared together in Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad. The level of familiarity will no doubt lend itself well to making their romance feel more genuine, and it doesn’t hurt that both stars are absurdly talented.

La La Land is scheduled to hit theaters on December 2.

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
