After starting the day off with the first trailer for their Power Rangers reboot, Lionsgate is continuing their New York Comic Con festivities with John Wick: Chapter 2, the hugely anticipated sequel to the acclaimed 2014 action flick that featured Keanu Reeves as a deadly assassin trying to avenge the murder of his beloved puppy.
The film grossed $86 million worldwide, which may not seem like much until you consider that its production budget was only $20 million. With profits like those, and near-universal praise from critics and audiences, it’s no surprise that a sequel was fast-tracked. And now, less than four months before its theatrical release, you can check out the first trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2.
Truth be told, I would’ve gladly walked into John Wick: Chapter 2 without seeing a single frame of footage, but it looks like director Chad Stahelski (working alone this time after helming the first film alongside David Leitch) hasn’t missed a step. This is only a taste of what we can expect in the sequel, and as great as these action sequences look now, I know we’re only scratching the surface.
Aside from Keanu, John Wick: Chapter 2 will feature a handful of returning actors from the previous installment, including Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo, Ian McShane, and Bridget Moynahan. And of course, we can’t forget all the new faces we’ll be seeing: Common, Ruby Rose, Franco Nero, Peter Stormare, and Morpeus himself, Laurence Fishburne.
John Wick: Chapter 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on February 10, 2017.
Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
