Say what you will about Fifty Shades of Grey – and trust me, I said plenty – the film was a colossal hit, opening to $85 million on its way to a worldwide gross of $571 million. Now the sequel is almost upon us, and Universal has released an extended trailer for the sex-laden follow-up.
Despite the way things ended in the previous film, it looks like Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) are attempting to mend the fences – at least, until a mysterious woman from Christian’s past (Bella Heathcote) begins stalking the couple. And there’s also Christian’s somewhat questionable connection to an older woman (Kim Basinger) that could pose a new threat to Ana’s newfound happiness.
Fifty Shades Darker definitely looks more intriguing than its predecessor, which was far more tedious than it was titillating. But whether or not audiences will once again flock to theaters remains to be seen. We’ll find out when the film opens on February 10.
When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.
