‘Iron Man 3′ casts Ben Kingsley as villain.
Last week, we told you which stars would be returning for Iron Man 3, which is scheduled to begin shooting next month. Today, we have news on a new addition to the cast: THR reports that Sir Ben Kingsley is in talks to portray one of the film’s villains. The plot is rumored to be based on the Extremis miniseries penned by Warren Ellis, and Variety says that Kingsley’s character would be heavily involved in the spread of a lethal nanobot virus, which certainly sounds as if it was taken directly from the acclaimed storyline.
While Variety is quick to debunk the idea of Kingsley taking on the role of the Mandarin, THR seems to think this is still a possibility, as director Shane Black is still polishing the script. While Kingsley may not have been my first choice for the Mandarin, there’s no denying that he certainly looks the part in the above photo. Marvel, of course, declined to comment.
Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release on May 3, 2013.
