Supergirl is getting her first major DC Comics adversary with the casting announcement of Peter Facinelli recurring as Maxwell Lord in the upcoming first season of the new CBS series.
The actor best known to the younger generation as Dr. Carlisle Cullen in Twilight (and best known to my generation as Mike Dexter in Can’t Hardly Wait) was announced for the role during Warner Bros TV’s Superhero Saturday Night in Hall H during Comic-Con 2015.
Maxwell Lord is probably best known to comic fans as the duplicitous villain that murdered the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, and then was killed by Wonder Woman herself for those actions during Infinite Crisis. The casting announcement describes Lord on Supergirl as “Sometimes a hero, sometimes a villain,” and “a green tech billionaire who enjoys a friendly rivalry with Cat Grant and a fascination with National City’s newest arrival — Supergirl.”
Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had been looking to working with Facinelli for a while:
“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I have been fans of Peter for years. We’re beyond thrilled to have him join us on Supergirl’s first adventures bringing the iconic Maxwell Lord to life.”
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, with David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are executive producers.
Supergirl debuts Monday, October 26, at a special time of 8:30p and will then air Mondays at 8pm on CBS.
