News about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been fairly sparse since the film was announced, but now The Daily Mail is reporting that Christoph Waltz is in early talks to portray the villainous Captain Brand in the film. But the folks over at Bleeding Cool are saying that the deal is far from being done.
Both publications offer up some new plot details, revealing that the film centers around Jack Sparrow’s search for The Trident, which requires him to once again enlist the aid of his father, Captain Teague (Keith Richards). Meanwhile, Captain Brand is seeking the artifact for himself to exact revenge on Jack for allegedly turning his brother into a pirate, a path which ultimately led to his death.
Matters become even more complicated when Jack falls for Carina, the daughter of Captain Barbossa. Bleeding Cool claims that Disney is interested in Rebecca Hall for the role, but an offer has not yet been made. Geoffrey Rush will be returning to reprise his role as Barbossa, alongside Johnny Depp as the iconic Jack Sparrow.
Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will direct Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales from a script by Jeff Nathanson. Production is expected to start next summer, with a 2016 release date in mind.
