Supergirl is moving ahead full-steam over at CBS and continues to fill the cast with interesting talent. Calista Flockhart has been cast as notable Superman DC Comics character Cat Grant, which will be a co-starring role opposite Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl. Cat is normally portrayed as a press rival for Lois Lane and Clark Kent and in this CBS’s upcoming TV version of Supergirl, the character will be the founder of media company CatCo and Kara’s boss.
Cat is normally a difficult (and sometimes vapid) character to work with, and it appears Flockhart’s portrayal will definitely be a horrible boss for Kara. Here’s TVLine‘s description of the character:
Described as J. Lo by way of Anna Wintour, Cat is the self-made founder of CatCo, a media empire that includes a global magazine and websites in multiple spheres. Having started her career as a reporter, she has the media savvy of Kim Kardashian with the entrepreneurial knowledge of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
I definitely approve of this casting and think Flockhart could really pull off a bitchy, aging Kardashian-type as a pseudo-adversary for Kara. Supergirl will reunite Flockhart with her Brothers & Sisters producer Greg Berlanti, who has had a stellar run with his superheroes on TV so far as producer of both Arrow and The Flash. I’m extremely excited to see the Superman universe return to television and hope the intriguing cast is given some good material to work with for CBS.
